Our beloved EBYÜ ELT Student Sarp Sanaç Receives TÜBİTAK 2209-A Project Support

We are proud to share that our student Sarp Sanaç from the Department of English Language Teaching at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University has achieved a significant success with his TÜBİTAK 2209-A supported research project.

The project, titled “ANIMVERB: Moiré-Based Animated Phrasal Verb Learning Tool,” was accepted under the TÜBİTAK University Students Research Projects Support Program. Conducted under the supervision of Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Çağdaş Erbaş, the project aims to support phrasal verb learning through innovative moiré animation techniques and interactive educational content.

We sincerely congratulate Sarp Sanaç and his advisor Dr. Çağdaş Erbaş on this achievement and wish them continued success in their academic journey.

End-of-semester English Proficiency Exam (2026)

Dear ELT Prep Students,

The end-of-semester English Proficiency Exam (EPE) will be administered on the 4th of June (Thursday).

The EPE will start at 9:00 and finish around 15:00 on the same day.

Here are the section details:

Use of English + Reading: 9:00-10:00

Listening + Writing: 10:15-12:00

Speaking: 13:30-16:00

Exam place: A3-Z15

From Erzincan to the International Stage: EBYÜ Student Ferdi Taşdelen to Represent Türkiye in Tunisia

We are proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Ferdi Taşdelen, a third-year student in the English Language Teaching Department at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University.

Selected among 7,800 applicants from across Türkiye, Ferdi earned a place in the prestigious “Tunisia Youth Program” and ranked 12th nationwide, becoming one of only 20 young representatives chosen to represent Türkiye internationally.

Originally from Antalya and currently continuing his studies in Erzincan, Ferdi’s success reflects not only his determination and talent, but also the growing international vision of our students at EBYÜ.

As a department, we are delighted to see our students achieving recognition on national and international platforms. We congratulate Ferdi Taşdelen on this inspiring accomplishment and wish him continued success in his future academic and intercultural endeavors.

ELT Öğrencilerinden Ergan Teknoloji Festivali’nde Yapay Zeka Destekli Dil Eğitimi Sunumu

Erzincan Binali Yıldırım Üniversitesi İngilizce Öğretmenliği Bölümü ikinci sınıf öğrencileri Tuncay Kaya, Mert Ali Yurdakul, İnanç Ergün ve Onur Samed Ovayurt, EBYÜ IEEE DAYS kapsamında düzenlenen Ergan Dağı Teknoloji Festivali’nde geliştirdikleri yapay zeka destekli telaffuz eğitimi uygulamalarıyla dikkat çekti.

Öğrenciler, “Language Enhancement and Assistance Program (LEAP)” başlığı altında hazırladıkları uygulama ve içerikleri festival alanında kurulan stantta katılımcılarla buluşturdu. Yapay zekâ teknolojilerinin yabancı dil öğretiminde kullanımına odaklanan çalışma; telaffuz geliştirme, geri bildirim mekanizmaları ve bireyselleştirilmiş öğrenme deneyimleri üzerine yenilikçi örnekler sundu.

Festival boyunca sektör temsilcileri, akademisyenler ve teknoloji meraklılarıyla bir araya gelen öğrenciler, projelerini tanıtma ve farklı disiplinlerden katılımcılarla fikir alışverişinde bulunma fırsatı elde etti. Öğrencilerin teknoloji ile dil eğitimini bir araya getiren yaklaşımları, ziyaretçiler tarafından ilgiyle karşılandı.

Etkinlik, üniversite öğrencilerinin yapay zekâ destekli eğitim teknolojileri alanındaki üretkenliğini ve disiplinlerarası çalışma potansiyelini ortaya koyması açısından önemli bir deneyim sundu.

Sharpening Skills with YDS Practice (See the results!)

Our ELT students recently took another Practice YDS Exam, giving them a chance to check their progress and get more familiar with the exam format. It was a useful step in strengthening their confidence and identifying areas to improve.

The exam has now been graded, and here are the top performers:

Guest Lecture at Harvard Graduate School of Education

Assoc. Prof. Talip Gönülal was recently invited as a guest speaker to deliver a lecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Dr. Gönülal delivered a session titled ‘A head-to-head comparison of Babbel and Duolingo: L2 Learning Gains and User Experience’, as part of the Gamification and Task-Based Language Instruction class session within the course called ‘Technology-enhanced Language Learning and Teaching.’ In his talk, Dr. Gönülal presented findings from his co-authored research, offering a comparative analysis of two widely used mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) applications—Babbel and Duolingo. The session focused on key issues such as learning effectiveness, user engagement, pedagogical design, and the role of gamification in language learning.

Sharing the Ramadan Spirit: ELT Department Iftar Gatherings 🌙✨

Our ELT Department embraced the spirit of Ramadan by organizing several iftar dinners with our students throughout the month. These gatherings provided a wonderful opportunity for students and faculty members to come together, share a meal, and enjoy the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Ramadan. It was truly a memorable experience to share the Ramadan vibe with our students and strengthen the bonds within our department.

Practice YDS exam administered (See results!)

Our ELT students recently took a Practice YDS Exam designed to help them assess their current English proficiency levels. A total of 75 students participated, using this valuable opportunity to experience the exam format and identify areas for improvement.
